Shakespeare Tackles the SOLs

Richmond Shakespeare Educational Outreach has a variety of workshops , residencies , and other programs that can help students in grades 4-12 acquire proficiency in the following Virginia Standards of Learning :

  • ENGLISH
    • Oral Language
      • Developing effective oral communication skills (4.1, 5.3, 6.1, 9.1)
      • Listening critically and analyzing information (4.2, 5.1, 6.2, 7.2, 7.3)
    • Reading
      • Understanding the elements of narrative, poetic, and dramatic writing, including conflict, plot, structure, setting, character, imagery, and theme (4.4, 5.5, 6.4, 7.5, 8.5, 9.3, 9.5, 10.3, 10.5, 10.6, 11.5, 11.6, 12.3, 12.5, 12.6)
      • Embracing and employing unfamiliar words and figurative language (4.3., 6.3, 7.4, 8.4)
      • Reading and analyzing the development of British literature (12.3)
  • HISTORY
    • Understanding the political, cultural, and economic conditions in the world about 1500 by describing artistic, literary, and intellectual ideas of the Renaissance (WHIL 2b)
  • FINE ARTS
    • Performance and Production (all grade levels and categories)
    • Cultural Context and Theater History (all grade levels and categories)
    • Judgment and Criticism (all grade levels and categories)
    • Aesthetics (all grade levels and categories)
